T16/3555 Student Central Quad Landscaping - Design & Build

Northumbria University has announced plans to invest £52 million over the next two years to make significant improvements to its Newcastle city centre campus.
Building on the £200 million invested in its City and Coach Lane campuses over the last ten years, the University is planning a number of major projects to transform the experience it provides to students studying at its City Campus.
We’re creating a new Student Central zone around Northumbria’s Students’ Union and Library that will bring together all student-facing services, such as the careers, welfare and international support in one area in the heart of the campus.
In addition to the Main Contract to transform one of our existing buildings into Student Central, the University wishes to continue the unification and definition of the Campus in the landscaping scheme in the Quad.
Recent investments at City Campus East, in Ellison Quad and the pedestrianisation of Northumberland Road have served to better define and unify the campus and improve the public realm.
In order to continue to define the extents of the Campus, it is envisaged that the landscaping works will form a continuation of the schemes previously completed, using a similar pallet of materials, street furniture and planting schemes.
The University wishes to invite expressions of interest from suitably experienced and competent specialist contractors, who have the capacity and skills to deliver the next phase of the landscaping works on Campus this summer.
As the project will be procured on a Design Build basis, the University will accept JV’s from Landscape Architects and Contractors.
The anticipation is that following the Expressions of Interest period, a Design Build Tender will be published in late April 2017, with award in May 2017, with delivery in June, July and August 2017, with completion ready for Fresher’s Week in September 2017.
