A38 Cross Keys Roundabout Improvements

The proposed scheme involves increasing the capacity at the roundabout and on the main approaches, the work consists of the following: -
• The circulatory carriageway of the roundabout will be widened to allow for 3 lanes of circulating traffic
• B4008 northbound from the M5 at J12 will be widened to 3 lanes on the approach to the roundabout
• A38 from northbound approach to roundabout from the Bristol direction will be widened to 3 lanes
• A38 northbound exit from the roundabout in a northerly direction will have an additional 3rd lane for a length of 50m
• the diverge taper into the Quedgeley West Business Park will be slightly altered to comply with current standards
• All road signs will be upgraded
• All the lighting columns will be replaced with new LED type lanterns
• Carriageway surfacing will be replaced
• All drainage will be renewed throughout the scheme
• Spiral markings will be placed on the roundabout and all lining on the approaches will be replaced
• Infrastructure for future partial signalisation of the junction will be installed
• A new 1m high retaining wall will be installed at the back of the B4008 widened verge
• New vehicle restraint system will be installed in the central reserve on the north side of the junction
• Removal of a hedgerow

Tender period: 10th December 2018 to 18th January 2019
Anticipated Works Start Date: 18th March 2019
Completion: 23rd August 2018
Overall Duration: 24 weeks


The proposed procurement route will be a single stage (sub-OJEU Open Procedure) using the NEC4 ECC form of Contract, Option A Priced Contract with Activity Schedule.
