Merton Fields - Natural Grass Sports Pitches Refurbishment
Main contract details
Swindon Borough Council invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced service providers for the refurbishment of an existing natural grass sports pitch.
This is a re-advertised and simplified (reduced) project scope from the opportunity previously advertised in Oct. 2017. NB: This is the basis for the struck through entries in the pricing document.
Project Description:
Playing field refurbishment of existing natural grass pitches in a public open space, in Swindon, Wiltshire.
Refurbishment of existing natural grass pitches to improve their existing poor condition by employing the following operations to bring to good condition for football use.
Site Investigations show that there is a very shallow topsoil depth – circa 75-150mm over a stony substrate. We are not looking to substantially change the soil profile, but looking to carry out limited regrading within the profile of the existing topsoil due to the proliferation of stones. This is to be augmented with the application of soil ameliorant on completion of seeding operations (refer to contract documentation for further information):
To include:
- Spraying out of the existing playing surface that is infested with weeds
- The poor surface smoothness that is causing surface water ponding over the course of the playing season to be alleviated by laser levelling
/shallow regrading/cultivation operations
- Reseeding with specified drought tolerant hard wearing grass mix
- 3 No. Visits on completion of seeding works to apply soil ameliorant
- 12 months Maintenance to start immediately at Practical Completion to include cutting, overseeding and fertilising
Full details relating to the Works are provided in the tender documents.
