Description
The Isle of Wight Council (“the Authority”) Public Health Sexual Health commissioner is establishing an approved provider list for the delivery of a long-acting reversible contraception (“LARC”) service that aims to ensure that women on the Isle of Wight requiring contraception are given information about, and offered a choice of contraceptive options including LARC methods.

Potential providers wishing to be admitted on to the approved provider list must complete the Enrolment Questionnaire (“EQ”) and be able to demonstrate that they meet all of the minimum criteria listed. Any provider that is able to demonstrate that they meet this criteria will be admitted on to the approved provider list and will be able to carry out LARC services and recharge the Authority for the activity undertaken.

Local authorities have the lead for improving health and coordinating efforts to protect public health. Public health teams within local authorities are responsible for commissioning and funding a number of mandated services to improve the health and wellbeing of populations.

Local authorities are mandated to commission and fund Long Acting Reversible Contraception services (LARC).

The Authority is seeking providers to deliver a LARC service that aims to ensure that women requiring contraception are given information about and offered a choice of contraceptive options including long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) methods. The aim of the service will be to promote LARC as a method of contraception and increase the uptake and ongoing use of LARC and thereby contributing to reducing unintended pregnancies, particularly teenage pregnancies. The service will also ensure that the availability of post-coital LARC fitting for emergency contraception is provided as another means of reducing unwanted pregnancies.

We are seeking providers that are able to provide an accessible, woman-centred, LARC insertion and removal service in a clinic setting as part of a range of contraception choices available for women. The service will raise awareness of the benefits of using LARC as a contraceptive method by providing high quality advice, support and information to all women seeking contraception and particularly to women aged under 25

The service will offer women-centred treatment and care that takes into account a woman’s individual needs and preferences. Women who are considering using or who use LARC should have the opportunity to make informed decisions about their care and treatment, in partnership with their healthcare professionals.

Providers must follow the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Service Standards for Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare that are appropriate to the provision of LARC.
