Description
First Tower Pumping Station (PS) was constructed in 1997 to replace the original pumping station constructed in 1954. First Tower PS operates as the terminal foul water pumping station that discharges all pumped flows to Bellozanne Sewage Treatment Works (STW) via twin 600mm diameter rising mains.

The sewerage system on the Island is a mixture of combined and separate foul and surface water sewers. The combined sewers are concentrated in and around St. Helier where the sewers are older, with the rest of the Island served by newer separate systems.

The Jersey sewerage system is heavily pumped with 106 foul/combined pumping stations across the Island. Approximately 90% of the population is connected to the sewerage system, with the remaining residential properties discharging into septic tanks. The majority of the foul/combined sewerage system on the Island is pumped to Bellozanne STW via First Tower PS.

The existing Bellozanne STW is unable to meet current and future requirements due to design capacity limitations, including technology and loading, hence the STW replacement works are currently underway with anticipated completion in 2022.

As part of the works to replace the existing Bellozanne STW, the pumps at First Tower PS are to be replaced with new pumps of higher capacity, the existing twin cast iron rising mains are to be partially relined and the new Inlet Works will be relocated at a higher elevation.

The scope of this Contract is for the upgrades to First Tower PS, including but not limited to:
• Installation of ‘free-issue’ replacement pumps and valves;
• Modifications within wet wells to improve hydraulics;
• New pipework and valves within valve chamber;
• Facilitating installation and commissioning of the odour control system by others;
• Facilitating commissioning of the new submersible pumps;
• Removal and disposal of redundant items (including pumps, valves, pipework and odour control system) and construction arisings; and,
• Other miscellaneous modifications;
• Co-ordination with the rising mains relining works.
