Title
RCC-1655 DESIGN, BUILD AND INSTALLATION OF THE ‘DIGGING RUTLAND GALLERY FROM STONE AGE TO ANGLO SAXON’ FOR THE RUTLAND COUNTY MUSEUM
Categories
45000000-7 - Construction work
Description
Rutland County Council (“the Council”) is seeking proposals from suitably qualified and experienced suppliers to design, build, and install a new permanent gallery at Rutland Museum. The gallery will interpret Rutland’s history from the Stone Age to the Anglo-Saxon period, with a feature Roman section dedicated to the nationally significant Ketton Roman Mosaic.

The successful supplier must deliver an end-to-end service incorporating creative design, technical development, fabrication, installation, and commissioning, resulting in an accessible, engaging, and durable visitor environment

The expected timeframe for this project is 6 to 7 months from design, build and installation. The Gallery needs to open in January 2027.

This Gallery will constitute the second instalment of the “Digging Rutland” exhibition series. The first gallery, currently in development, will focus on the Mid Jurassic period and will showcase the recently discovered Rutland Ichthyosaur.

The Stone Age to Anglo-Saxon Gallery will occupy an approximate footprint of 195 m² within which an area of approximately 10m x 6m will be allocated to a new digital interpretation experience exploring the Roman history of Rutland. The centrepiece of this digital offer will be a high-quality digital representation of the Ketton Roman Mosaic.

Both galleries form part of the wider transformation of Rutland County Museum project. This capital development programme includes the creation of a new multi-use space, a redesigned public entrance, café and retail area, and a dedicated gallery showcasing the Rutland Ichthyosaur. The Gallery described within this tender specification will form the second permanent gallery, presenting a chronological narrative from the Stone Age through to the Anglo-Saxon period.

A list of the artefacts intended for inclusion within this Gallery is provided in Appendix A(i) & (ii) of this Specification.

Please note that this gallery is part of Rutland County Council’s Levelling Up funds and is therefore subject to the associated brand guidelines of acknowledging UK Government for these funds. Brand guidelines will be provided to the successful bidder.

Further information about the service requirements can be obtained in the tender documentation within this tender pack.
