<p>North Somerset Council is exploring options for the provision of an Ageing Well Physical Activity Service that provides physical activities for older people of all abilities across North Somerset. This is not a call for competition, we are completing a market sounding exercise.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Regular physical activity makes an important contribution to improving the health and well-being of older adults, reducing the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, depression, dementia and injury due to falls and helping to maintain physical and cognitive function.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The primary aim of this service is to improve access to and the take up of physical activity opportunities for older people through:</p>
<p>• specialised and varied exercise classes for older adults across North Somerset</p>
<p>• using community venues including sheltered schemes and day centres</p>
<p>• assisting the recovery to improved mobility post operation or injury</p>
<p>• increasing the participation in physical activity by encouraging participation by older men and women</p>
<p>• working closely with partner organisations to develop activities, raise awareness and increase participation.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The organisation delivering the Ageing Well Physical Activity Service will:</p>
<p>• have a track record of delivering exercise classes to inactive older people</p>
<p>• have access to suitably qualified instructors with experience of delivering exercise classes to older people in community venues such as sheltered schemes and day centres.</p>
<p>• have access to older people through local services and networks</p>
<p>• be committed to supporting older people</p>
<p>• be able to collect participant and throughput data and report this monthly.</p>

<p>Indicative levels of activity is 10,400 session attendances per annum, which is subject to change. The service will be required to begin on 1st April 2022.</p>
