Description
Kent Fire & Rescue Service (KFRS) are undertaking a project to explore the potential use of new technology to support and improve our awareness and understanding of site specific risk information (SSRI) of complex and higher risk premises.

The use of 3D mapping tools and software allows for complex premises to be scanned and an electronic ‘model’ created which will support current risk information and tactical planning documents which include photographic pictures, floor plans, and geographical mapping imagery. There is an opportunity to create 3D maps as well as a ‘walkthrough’ function.

The key benefits KFRS are seeking to achieve are:

Improved SSRI product with more detail and 3D spatial mapping of risk sites

Improved understanding of risk information within Kent and cross border

Enhanced materials for on station training and preparedness around SSRI sites with technology enhanced learning

Enhanced information available during an operational incident through MDT and officer remote support- for incidents at SSRI sites

Reduced requirement for operational response to conduct on site visits of SSRI locations.

Ability to share 3D risk information of Kent risk sites to cross border FRS’

The Authority have undertaken a review of the market and have identified a solution which has the potential to achieve the required benefit objectives and as such the pilot will be scheduled to take place early in the new year. The pilot will:

undertake imaging of a number of test sites

evaluate the benefits, suitability, feasibility and acceptability of using 3D cameras for within KFRS

provide clarity around policy, processes, IT requirements, security, finance, and procurement.

enable us to recommend a course of action for the potential future use of this technology in the Service

However, whilst a pilot solution has been identified, KFRS would be keen to hear from any suppliers in the market who would be interested in speaking to us to assist in the development of our longer term/future use of the technology.
