Community Nutrition and Physical Activity

Lewisham Council are seeking organisation/s who will take a community development approach to delivery, supporting individuals, groups and organisations to promote healthy lifestyles with a focus on healthy eating and physical activity. It is expected that organisation/s will complement and enhance existing and planned health improvement programmes in the borough and be a key partner in Lewisham’s Food Partnership. The overall aim is to achieve long-term improved lifestyles leading to greater health equality opportunities.

The service will consist of the following key components:
• It is expected that the model will include the appointment of a community development nutritionist, a community development physical activity specialist and a community development food worker. These posts will work to enhance the existing programmes in the neighbourhoods and increase synergy between the varied initiatives in the community.
• Delivery of a borough wide community cookery programme to enable people to learn the skills of cooking healthily on a budget.
• Delivery of active lifestyles programmes aimed at inactive/sedentary adults.
• Promote and raise awareness of existing nutrition initiatives such as the local vitamin D scheme and the Healthier Catering Commitments scheme with local food businesses.
• Support community development approach with funds for participatory budgeting to enable delivery of local healthy eating and physical activity initiatives.
