Market Engagement – Management of Shared Lives and Homeshare

Herefordshire Council currently commissions a countywide Shared Lives Scheme and the contract ceases on 31 March 2018.

The council would welcome interest from organisations with a track record in managing effective and innovative Shared Lives & Homeshare Schemes.

Proposals are invited that ensure continuity of provision, expansion of the scheme and improved outcomes for people who use the Shared Lives service.

The Scheme presently supports 60 shared lives carers who provide long, short-term and respite placements; around 80 people live with Shared Lives carers and of those, over 70% have a learning disability.

The council is keen to extend the Shared Lives Scheme and to offer the unique benefits of Shared Lives to as many people as possible including, older people, those with dementia and young people in transition to adulthood.

Furthermore, Shared Lives carers are uniquely placed to offer a range of complementary services including day opportunities and short stays for people who have left hospital.

The introduction of a Homeshare Scheme in Herefordshire is also under consideration.
