Description
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has set out the levels of service to be provided by local authorities for Food Safety, Food Standards (labelling and composition) and Animal Feeding Stuffs. The most recent Food Law Code of Practice (last updated February 2018) informs Food Authorities on the execution and enforcement of food legislation.

In order to ensure full compliance with the Code Wigan Council is seeking a supplier to conduct inspections under a Framework Agreement at a range of premises within Wigan Borough. The Council is looking for the supplier to provide structured and thorough inspections of premises, to appropriately risk rate the premises and provide a food hygiene rating score in line with the Code and Practice Guidance and the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme Brand Standard.

The Borough’s business profile is large and diverse. The inspections will be conducted at a range of business types and risk categories.

It is anticipated that up to 300 food inspections per year may arise during the course of the Framework Agreement, this figure being indicative and not a guarantee.

The premises allocated will have an existing food hygiene rating of either Category C, D or E. However, a small percentage of visits may result in a business being allocated a different rating. Therefore, within the priced submission tenderers are required to provide unit assessment costs for each category type A to E.

The premises to be inspected will be identified by the Council. The appointed supplier will be provided with a premises list detailing each establishment requiring inspection at intervals during the life of the Framework Agreement. These will normally be at the beginning of each quarter to facilitate work planning, and inspections shall normally be completed by the end of each quarter.

For the full scope of requirements tenderers should read the Specification for this service and the Invitation to Tender documentation.

The deadline of Friday 13th December 2019 at 17:00 represents the deadline for the submission of final tender applications.
