CQC Local System Review of Health and Social Care in Cumbria

The Care Quality Commission has announced that it will be carrying out a Local System Review of Health
and Social Care in Cumbria.
The purpose of this review is to understand how people over 65 move through the health and social care
system with a focus on the interfaces between services and it is one of 20 targeted reviews taking place
across the Country.

The review will explore our local area commissioning arrangements and how as organisations we work
together to develop person-centred, coordinated care for people who use services, their families and carers.

The review will involve:
Completion of a ‘Local System Overview Information Request’ (SOIR). This will provide an opportunity for
us to tell them, prior to their visit, how the system works together to provide safe, timely and high quality
services for older people living in Cumbria.
There are two scheduled visits to Cumbria. The first is on the 31st of January and the 1st February which
will be looking at user experience. The second will take place from 12 to 16 February. During these visits a
team of reviewers will talk to a wide range of providers, partners and customers about their experience

To help us prepare for this visit we have organised two local briefing sessions, one in the North and one in
the South on the following dates
North 23 January, 2-4pm at Rheged Centre, Penrith
South 25 January, 2-4pm at Castle Green Hotel, Kendal
The objectives of these sessions are:
• To share information with key stakeholders about the purpose, format and plans for the review
• To share and discuss the ‘System Overview Information Request’ in order to gather views of key
stakeholders
In addition, we would like to take the opportunity to provide you with an update on developments that are
taking place in the health and care system.
