PAN1672 - Historical research services

To supply historical research relating to specified local history topics that will be used as a basis for writing text for heritage interpretation panels and for use on the Story of Leicester website. The copyright on the text would vest with Leicester City Council.
• Research to be supplied in Microsoft Word format and be no less than 1,200 words. Headings for different sections can be used. For examples of the style of presentation refer to http://www.storyofleicester.info/cityheritage/atwork
• Research will relate to telling the stories connected to various local historical buildings and local streets. Research should focus where relevant on:
o the importance of the buildings to the development of Leicester,
o famous or significant people connected to the building,
o when it was built and why,
o previous occupants and changes of use over time
o the architect or commissioner of the building,
o any significant events that took place in the building or street,
o place the building or street in a wider historical context,
o highlight any outstanding architectural features
• The research should contain relevant references and sources should be quoted.
• Undertake research into relevant images to support the text and indicate sources. Images should only be suggested where it is practical to clear copyright i.e. suggesting uncredited images from websites where it would not be possible to track the copyright holder should not be included. A small selection of 4-8 would be ideal.
• Text should be produced within 6 weeks of commission or as agreed with the Heritage Manager.
Those tendering should:
• Have a proven track record in academic historical research
• Be specialists in the history of Leicester
• Have experience of writing text for publication, websites, exhibitions or similar where the content is presented for the general public to read.
