Air Quality Study of Kingston Town Centre
Main contract details
As a result of monitored and modelled exceedances of the National Air Quality Objectives (NAQOs) for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter (PM10), the entire Royal Borough of Kingston has been designated as an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA). In the 2020 annual status report for 2019 a number of town centre sites in particular recorded exceedances of limit values for NO2. As a consequence, the town centre has been designated an Air Quality Focus Area (AQFA), with traffic considered the dominant cause. The borough wishes to understand in more detail the sources of pollution from vehicles in this locale, and what can practically be done to reduce this pollution. The borough proposes to commission a study to consider this in more detail.
