To Appoint A Consultant to Carry Out Fouracres Flood Study, Maghull, Merseyside.

Background

Sefton Council is promoting a flood alleviation scheme to be delivered in 18/19 to relieve the flood risk to 40 properties in Fouracres.
In order to do this, Sefton Council wish to appoint a consultant to model and consider options for the scheme to produce an economic appraisal, and to assist with the outline business case with a view to securing funding for the preferred option.

The consultant will be appointed by the end of April 2018 with a view to completing works in the first 2 weeks of May 2018.

The properties in Fouracres are at risk of flooding from several sources; two surface water systems in Fouracres discharge into two main rivers, Dover’s Brook and Melling Brook, and back up the system when outfalls are below river level. Fouracres is bordered to the South West and North West by these rivers. The highway stands proud of properties, so this runoff enters the system and, when the system surcharges, is directed into residents’ gardens as the low point and builds up towards properties.
Following the flooding in September 2012 in which internally flooded 24 properties in Fouracres and affected 40, flood investigations were carried out and consequently flap valves were installed on both United Utilities surface water outlets into Melling Brook and Dovers Brook from Fouracres.
