B4234 Cannop Ponds, Parkend Slip Stabilisation

This notice is not intended as a call for competition. It is intended to inform the market of this opportunity and that we anticipate to conduct the full procurement exercise later in March/April 2016.

The Highway at Cannop Ponds in the Forest of Dean as been subject to embankment settlement and slope instability for many years, with records extending back at least forty years. The road has been kept open by short term patching over this time, with the result that there is now over 2m depth of road surfacing over the affected area and a long term solution is necessary. The site extends for approximately 140m and the embankment is approximately 3m high.

It is proposed to rectify this ongoing failure and rotational movement the road formation and bank will be stabilized by the installation of a network ground anchors into the bedrock strata below the slip plane. A new land drain (by other) running the length of the scheme and discharging under new road construction will relieve any build-up of ground water and/or run off from the heavily forested and steeply banked area to the west of the carriageway. The carriageway will be planned to a depth of 500mm and a new carriageway construction in the same line as existing carriageway.
