Summary of Opportunity

Licence to run a tennis coaching business from Poole Park Tennis Courts.

The Borough of Poole is seeking to develop the park tennis programme at Poole Park Tennis facility by providing a balanced tennis development program enabling equality of access by all sectors of the community with the outcome of improving people’s health, well-being and skills, whilst generating additional incomes for the Council. The courts utilise a ‘key fob’ management and online booking system for the pubic to pay per household and play at an affordable annual cost. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated coach or coaching provider to provide this service by taking on a License for the site.
The courts are a signature facility for the Borough situated within the thriving Poole Park. The Park also benefits from an outdoor gym, boating lake, Bowling Green and putting green and has 1 million visitors per year.

Job Specification
The position offered is self-employed with a proportion of group coaching hours followed by the opportunity to build a client base of individual sessions. The coach would be expected to provide a varied tennis program on site appealing to all sectors of the community, over 20 hours, with an option to extend this time based on demand for coaching services.

The candidate would be expected to run a park coaching programme on the courts to include: -
• Coaching for all levels and abilities
• Junior development
• Disability/accessible tennis provision
• Holiday activity provision
• Cardio Tennis or other tennis orientated fitness options
• Develop Club/school/LTA links
• Support to Borough initiatives as appropriate

Person Specification
Attributes required:
• Reliable, enthusiastic, motivated and organised with good communication skills
• LTA Coach Qualification (Level 3) minimum although an ambitious Level 2 who is in midst of completing level 3 will be considered
• Full LTA license
• Full DBS (Former CRB) disclosure.
• Attended ‘cardio tennis course’ and ‘working in schools module’ from LTA.
• Experience of working on park/local authority courts
• Experience of engaging groups of people not currently participating in tennis.
• Desire to grow a program from small base.
• Experience of working with the LTA measures of success and local LTA development teams.
• Good administration skills and experience of word and excel.

Agreement / Terms

• Borough of Poole would like to offer the full coaching rights at 20 hours per week on a concessionaire provision of Licence.
• The individual would work on a self – employed basis
• The council would like to offer a three year licence, with annual reviews.
• The council would like to offer this licence with a suitable licence fee, although the nature of payment and structure can be discussed with the appropriate candidate/s.
• Coach to keep all profits from coaching groups and individuals.
• Coach would be required to engage in joint accountability with the council on the measures of success for this project.
