Short Breaks Children Targeted service
Main contract details
Multiple providers will be commissioned to deliver free, targeted community-based activity groups for children and young people with SEND from 4 – 18 years of age who require additional support to access inclusive community provision. The service will enable children and young people to:
• Build friendships and social connections
• Develop independence, confidence, and life skills
• Access safe, enjoyable, and inclusive opportunities within their local communities while providing parents and carers with meaningful breaks from caring responsibilities.
The service will be available to children and young people with SEND who may not be able to access universal provision without additional support, structure, or reasonable adjustments. Groups will be targeted based on assessed needs and aligned to the aims of the Short Breaks Commissioning Strategy.
Providers must deliver services across one of more of the following geographical areas with a mixture of physical and non-physical activities and be available during term time (including after school); weekends; and school holidays (with longer session options available):
• Chester
• Ellesmere Port
• Winsford
• Northwich
• Neston
It is expected that holiday sessions will be scheduled to take place during the week in line with engagement received from families, especially those that are working. Providers will be expected to align with the school holidays set by Cheshire West and Chester Council to ensure that sessions are planned to ensure consistency, reliability, and choice, particularly during the holiday periods (but noting some individual school dates may differ due to religious observances)
