Description
The Council are seeking a suitably qualified operator for the Provision of a Waste Disposal Service to Bury Market.

Bury Market is a large retail Market which has operated from its current location for over 30 years. The Market has over 300 stalls selling a wide variety of goods and services and comprises of three main areas; The Market Hall, the Fish & Meat Hall and the Open Market.

Both the Market Hall and the Fish and Meat Hall operate for 6 days per week (Monday to Saturday) with the Open Market, on which the majority of stalls are located, opening 3 days each week (Wednesday, Friday & Saturday).

The Market has won several awards, most recently ‘NAMBAs – Market Attraction of the Year and Most Coach Friendly Shopping Attraction’. The Market enjoys a reputation for excellence within the industry and is seen as an innovative and resourceful organisation.

The contract is for the period 1st May 2018 to 30th April 2021 with an option to extend the contract for two further twelve month periods until 30th April 2023.

The waste from the Market Hall, Fish & Meat Hall, and Open Market stalls is placed into wheeled 1100lt bins located around the Market. The bins are then moved by Market Operatives to a Compactor and 40yrd metal container located on the Open Market.

Cardboard is separated by the Market Traders into wheeled cages located around the Market. When full the cages are moved by Market Operatives to the baling room where they are baled with the resulting bales moved into a 40yrd metal container for storage.

Both the compactor and the baled cardboard store are emptied once per week on a Tuesday.

It is expected that the new agreement will replicate the current arrangements; however alternative arrangements will be considered providing they are a suitable option that will meet the needs of the market service and can be accommodated in the area designated for the collection of waste.
