Milford-on-Sea Beach Hut Replacement Scheme and Associated Works
Categories

Description
New Forest District Council is undertaking a project to replace beach huts at Milford-on-Sea that were damaged during the storm event of 14th February 2014.

A design team of Ramboll UK Ltd and Snug Architects Ltd were appointed in 2015 to undertake options assessment and the design of the selected option. This has now been completed and the Authority is now at the stage of selecting and appointing a suitable contractor to deliver this scheme in 2016.

This is an opportunity to be involved in a prestigious sea front scheme that will not only deliver an innovative and robust beach hut design to this area, but will also provide a significant enhancement to the local community - enabling this fantastic location, with views across to the Needles and Christchurch Bay to be enjoyed by all visitors to the area.

The scheme involves the construction of:
• 119 reinforced concrete beach huts formed of specially designed precast concrete units with GRP party walls and robust doors.
• The use of graphic images on the concrete fronts and sides to provide a high aesthetic appeal.
• New reinforced concrete promenade slab.
• A pedestrian access route along the beach hut roofs - this will include the provision of precast concrete access steps and ramps, surfacing, a short steel footbridge, balustrades and handrails.
• New access ramps and steps to provide all-ability access to the lower promenade and beach - this includes the design and construction of a bespoke steel ramp.
• Upper promenade ancillary works, including surfacing, channel drains and outfalls, tactile paving, etc

To facilitate the new construction, the existing lower promenade slab and retaining wall will be demolished and removed. There will also be some necessary groundworks.
