Cambridge City Council - Low Cost Funeral Partner EOI
Main contract details
To include the following:
• Onsite presence two days a week at Huntingdon Rd – office facilities provided at no cost
• Provide a 24 hour service to include an out of hours call out between the hours of 5pm and 9am
• Market the service to include:
o Website presentation
o Branding
o Online marketing/advertising
o Material for social media platforms
o Press opportunities
o Other media outlets.
• Provide a separate 01223 phone number for mourners to call direct
• Provide a full training package for the crematorium staff with the view of handing over the service in 3 years
• Service to be offered by the partner via share of gross turnover via open book reporting
• Offer two levels of service as articulated below
Service levels
Option 1: The direct cremation/burial
• This service allows families to have an affordable yet dignified cremation/burial but with no mourners present
• The deceased is removed from a local hospital or public mortuary to the crematorium
• In the case of a burial this will be in a unpurchased plot
• The partner would receive and attend to the first call of the family at time of death and liaise with the family directly to facilitate the paperwork required for the cremation
• On registration of death the family or representative would receive a certificate for burial or cremation (Green Form) which would be delivered to Cambridge crematorium together with any other signed paperwork applicable. Cambridge crematorium staff would complete paperwork allowing the partner to remove the deceased from the hospital.
• The partner would liaise with the hospital/coroner/3rd parties to ensure all paperwork is completed and collect the completed doctors’ forms and pay any fees applicable
• Facilitate the removal of the deceased from the mortuary,
• Transport the deceased directly to Cambridge Crematorium in a suitable basic coffin with a nameplate affixed
• Cambridge Crematorium would then carry out the cremation within available time slots
• The ashes would be collected from Cambridge City Crematorium by the designated person, family or applicant.
Option 2: As above but with the additions below
• This service allows families to have an affordable yet dignified cremation/burial with mourners present hosted by the partner
• The deceased is removed directly from hospital or public mortuary
• In the case of a burial there will be the option of a public grave or to purchase the exclusive right of burial
• Service to be available at either of the chapels at the crematorium or the chapel at Newmarket Road
• The family would be able to choose a suitable time and location of the service.
• The deceased would be prepared and dressed
• On completion of the funeral service the attendees would be invited to the garden of remembrance or cloisters to view any floral tributes
• Cambridge Crematorium would then carry out the cremation within the time allowed
• The ashes would be collected from Cambridge City Crematorium by the designated person, family or applicant
