The Public Health teams at Wiltshire Council, Swindon Borough Council and Bath and North East Somerset Council would like to invite interested providers to attend a virtual market engagement event in relation to workforce training on oral health, on Wednesday 2 October from 12 noon to 1pm.

There is currently a lack of oral health training for workforces who do not have a dental background across the three local authority areas of Wiltshire, Swindon and Bath and North East Somerset. We would like to enable non-dental professionals to support the improvement of oral health with a focus on prevention and reducing inequalities.

The particular services this engagement event will focus on is oral health training for professional workforces, Mouth Care Champions in relevant settings such as care homes and targeted provision of toothbrushing packs to accompany the training programmes.

The wider training offer will focus on prevention of poor oral health, utilising opportunistic Making Every Contact Count conversations for delivery of oral health messages and identifying Oral Health Champions in each setting. The Mouth Care Champions training will improve daily mouthcare, oral health and wellbeing of people dependent upon care through the provision of training and support to Mouth Care Champions.

Workforces that will be trained cover the whole life course and include ICS (Integrated Care System) partners, social care, education and housing, as well as Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise organisations. Through the knowledge and skills gained through these training programmes, workforces will also be supported to meet their statutory duties around oral health care.

The programme will include the delivery of a range of evidence-based oral health training both in-person and online. This will be based on local need within each local authority area, with a focus on population groups at greater risk of poor oral health.

It is anticipated that the contract will be for 2 years (+1) from January 2025, with a total contract value of £170,000.

The engagement event will be an opportunity to find out more and share your views on the planned services. We would like to hear your thoughts on how these services can be offered across the Wiltshire, Swindon and Bath and North East Somerset areas whilst meeting the needs of the population.

This event is online, further details will be shared with you closer to the date of this event.
