Wincanton Public Realm Enhancement Design
Main contract details
We wish to develop detailed designs to RIBA Stage 6 to enable construction at four key project areas. Relevant design team members will be expected to fulfil a technical supervision and advisory role through RIBA5-6 (Highway Safety Audit 3 and 4). A review point will be built in at the end of RIBA 3, the details of which will be agreed with the preferred contractor but this is likely to include progress against submitted project plan, availability of funds to implement schemes, external factors such as organisational change or market changes.
We are in the process of establishing a public realm construction framework so the construction procurement will be commissioned separately from contractors which are within the framework.
As an element of this brief, we also wish to incorporate a refresh of the wayfinding approach which complements the proposed introduction of two new brown signs on the A303.
The successful submission will be from a company (or consortium) with a design team comprising landscape architects, highway engineers, quantity surveyors and cost consultants to deliver this commission.
The commission has the following deliverables
a) Public realm:
- Establishing a concise and consistent design and materials palette
- Outline and detailed design including soft and hard landscaping options
- Complementary detailed design at four key areas to create a cohesive approach.
b) Review of wayfinding approach to improve information for both local people and visitors through the creation of good quality directional/interpretation signage and technical options, establishing locations and design of signs within and on the approach to the town centre to aid pedestrian/vehicle passage.
c) Design and location of A303 brown signs together with a route audit to identify supplementary approach signage requirements/interventions on routes from the A303
d) Review street lighting provision and wider outdoor lighting options including design/style and position.
e) Project management
- A cost plan for each element assuming phased implementation
- A programme for the design phase to include an early stakeholder engagement session and wider public consultation to inform the detailed design
- Details of the supporting surveys which will be undertaken
- A proposed implementation plan including the timelines of anticipated delivery
- Identification of current grant funding opportunities
