Tthe provision of Specialised Occupational Health
Main contract details
The PSW provides a consistent, single point of access to expert advice, guidance and information to all parties involved in the management of medical and dental trainees.
Before a trainee doctor or dentist is referred for a specialised occupation health assessment, they must be referred to the PSW by one of their educators (i.e. Educational Supervisor or Training Programme Director). Upon receipt of the referral form, the PSW will triage the individual case and make a decision regarding what support would be beneficial to the trainee. In all cases where a trainee is referred to the PSW by their educator, they will have a meeting with their allocated Case Manager before being referred for a specialised occupational health assessment.
It is important for the provider to understand that this contract is not for general occupational health assessments which may be included within pre-employment checks as part of the employer’s responsibilities.
The provider will be expected to work with trainee doctors and dentists from all specialties. Please review ‘Specialty Programmes’ for the list of specialties. This document will provide helpful information on the types of training undertaken.
There is no minimum number of referrals per annum.
The provider should have an understanding of the work undertaken, as well as the professional commitments, of a trainee doctor or dentist in order to arrange mutually convenient sessions. The provider must be aware and demonstrate understanding that sessions may need to be rearranged at short notice due to emergency clinical situations and changes to rotas or on-call commitments.
