Description
Student Attendance Monitoring Solution and System

* This project will help achieve a required Strategic Outcome to embed Retention, Progression, Completion and Achievement in order to maximise Student and Stakeholder satisfaction and Strengthen Operational efficiency and effectiveness and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Deliverables

* The expected business outcomes following completion of the project:

* A new Northumbria University policy for Student Attendance Monitoring based on ‘best practice’, supported by a ‘fit for purpose’ Student Attendance Monitoring system, is implemented for operational use.
* The University will have the capability to monitor all taught activity for all UK based students and produce accurate and timely information on student attendance that will:
* Provide the data required by UK Visas and Immigration to enable the University to fulfil its obligations as a Tier 4 Sponsor for international students.
* Inform Learning Analytics to help better understand the factors that influence student withdrawal and achievement.
* Enable timely actions and interventions needed to realise the following expected benefits:
*? Secure better retention, progression of students at all levels and stages of study, and improve non-continuation in light of TEF.
*? Improve the pastoral and academic support provided to students at all stages and levels of study.
*? Reduce the income lost through non-continuation and improve income through retention and progression of students.
*? Provide better quality information to inform our Estates Management Return to HESA on timetabled versus actual use of teaching space, and identify potential opportunities to intensify the use of existing teaching space.

Background

* Currently the University does not mandate student attendance in classes unless there is a professional body requirement or to meet Home Office reporting requirements for International Students. The University currently uses two IT systems to support and monitor student attendance:

* ARC – Used for Placement activities for Nursing, Operating Department Practitioners, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Social Work Programmes. This is a third party provided solution from ARC Technology Ltd.
* SAM (Student Attendance Monitoring System) an in-house built solution used for other student attendance monitoring of Learning & Teaching activities.

Purpose and Approach of the Expression of Interest

* This Expression of Interest is designed to identify a potential partner or collaborating partners who could provide a system and solution to meet the University requirements. The input will be used to inform and shape stakeholder understanding of the capability, capacity, functionality and technology available currently and on future development roadmaps. The University may invite potential partners to attend and discuss in more detail their submissions aligned with the High Level Requirements.
