This advert is intended to notify potential suppliers of the upcoming tender for the A435 Cycleway Section 2.1 & Wellington Road scheme.

The A435 Cycleway Section 2.1 works are located between the GWSR Bridge and Bishop’s Cleeve roundabout, with the Wellington Road works located between Wellington Road and Central Cross Drive.

The works are located at two distinct sites. The first site, A435 Cycleway Section 2.1, is located north of the GWSR Bridge (approx. post code GL50 4SH) to Bishops Cleeve Roundabout (approx. post code GL52 8SF), and the second site, Wellington Road, located from Wellington Road Junction (approx. post code GL52 2AH) to Central Cross Drive junction (approx. post code GL52 2AH). This scheme is part of a wider strategic scheme to boost active travel provision within the county, through the creation of the Gloucestershire Cycle Spine. The overall scheme will implement a continuous cycleway for cyclists of all ages and abilities between the main hubs of Bishops Cleeve, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Haresfield and Stroud. In addition, this scheme will also install a section of sheet piling along the A435, which shall improve embankment stability and reduce continuous carriageway cracking.

The client is looking for a Principal Contractor to deliver the construction phase of this scheme.

Summary of Construction Phase key deliverables are as follows:
Provide suitable Traffic Management during the construction works.
Pedestrian access to residents always during the construction works.
Utility diversion works (arranged by GCC for PC to liaise/accommodate).
New drainage works and tie-in to existing.
A mixture of Highway, segregated footway / cycleway track and new shared use path construction.
Junction and carriageway realignments.
New traffic signals facilities across the route.
Streetlighting column installation and relocation.
Sheet piling installation along the A435 for 160m.

The proposed procurement route will be a single stage (Open Procedure) using the NEC4 ECC form of Contract, Option A Priced Contract with Activity Schedule.
