Description

The Government of Jersey is presently progressing with plans to construct a series of skateparks in the Island. When constructed, these facilities will provide bespoke, purpose-built urban and wheeled sports facilities that will cater for all users of all abilities in the future.

The construction of the skatepark facilities involves the use of specialist construction techniques. The placing and shaping of reinforced concrete, the finishing of the concrete, the setting-out, the forming of concrete coping or building-in of steel coping, and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), as well as secure fencing, landscaping and building services; all need to be coordinated and carried out effectively and efficiently. The environmental constraints and construction logistics will all require management involvement in the planning and delivery of the skatepark as well.

It is likely that the construction may involve a local organisation with no skatepark construction experience to engage the services and support of an organisation from elsewhere that has experience of delivering these types of specialist facilities.

The Government are presently finalising their procurement strategy for the appointment of the works contractor, and are seeking feedback (in the form of responses to this survey) on the appetite, capability and desires of the local construction industry to get involved with building a skatepark. The Government presently envisages that the contract will be awarded to one of either:

• an existing locally based contractor subcontracting a specialist skatepark construction contractor and any other elements of the works they wish to subcontract; or

• a specialist skatepark construction contractor subcontracting local contractors for non-specialist elements of the works

This survey is free to all organisations that are involved in the construction industry to respond to. It is primarily aimed at Main Contractors and Subcontractors, but is open to all to reply. Respondents must provide answers to the questions shown below. No further information (unless specified) is required at this stage. The Government estimate it will take not more than 15 minutes to complete this survey and all responses are confidential.
