Contract: Lydden Primary School - Hall Replacement

Details

Buyer:
Kent County Council
Department:
Kent County Council
Title:
Lydden Primary School - Hall Replacement
Description:
Kent County Council have identified that the hall at Lydden Primary school is beyond its economical life and doesn’t meet the school’s requirements to deliver its curriculum. Kent County Council are in the process of finding best cost-effective solution as well as best suited structure, to enable the maximum use and potential of the hall itself. A survey of the hall was undertaken, and it was concluded that the accommodation is non-compliant and overall the structure is in a state of disrepair. It is envisaged that the Hall will be used for not only activities within the school curriculum, as well as extracurricular activities such as afterschool clubs and private hire for out of school use. The Hall will also be used for serving school dinners so will include a commercial kitchen. The Hall must be of good quality design, energy efficient, affordable, easy to maintain. In addition, they must also represent value for money in terms of capital and life cycle costs and include easy to replace components. The location under consideration is of an isolated area with very limited access for day-to-day use, so therefore deemed suitable for construction during school term if necessary. Careful planning and reasonable access must be agreed prior to commencement of works for logistics on delivery of materials and site welfare. There are narrow roads surrounding the school and high volume of traffic may prove to be an issue. Some preliminary drawings have been prepared for your information, but they can only be in their infancy. It is expected that tenderers are to review the site, it’s potential to maximise the area, site restrictions, surrounding buildings etc., to provide a robust and suitable design. Topographical and de risking surveys will be provided during the tender. The initial budget estimation of the works is £750,000. Kent County Council are looking to procure an Multi Disciplined Consultant via the Consultants Framework Lot 10 to provide design services RIBA Stages 2 to 7.
