Cornwall Council has received £141,156 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government under the Homelessness Prevention Grant to improve support for children living in temporary accommodation. Following extensive consultation with stakeholders and analysis of Housing Options data, the decision was made to target the Homelessness Prevention Grant funding specifically at children of young parents living in temporary accommodation. This cohort faces unique and compounded disadvantages, including disrupted education, safeguarding risks, and barriers to accessing health and support services. The nature of support includes: -Trauma informed, relational support to improve safety, nutrition, sleep, and emotional wellbeing. -Education continuity: school/nursery attendance, homework spaces, and essential learning materials. -Practical assistance: spot purchasing for immediate needs such as food, clothing, hygiene products, and digital access. -Living environment improvements: creating safe, child friendly spaces for play and learning. -Health and safeguarding: promoting safe sleep, timely health checks, and continuity of care. -Active engagement and advocacy: supporting families to navigate housing, education, and health systems. The project aims to: -Reduce harm caused by housing instability. -Improve emotional, physical, and developmental outcomes for children. -Strengthen multi agency collaboration across housing, education, and health.
